Skagit Valley Family YMCA Hosting 3v3 Basketball Tournament
SKAGIT COUNTY, WA – The Skagit Valley Family YMCA and Schweigert Family are excited to announce the first annual T-3 3v3 Basketball tournament taking place April 22-23, 2023. Slam Dunk Sponsors for the tournament include Axthelm Construction, KarMART Automotive Group, the Rayce Rudeen Foundation, Community Health Plan of Washington, and Cavalier Real Estate.
The tournament is available to boys and girls teams in grades 6-12 with divisions for 6-7th graders, 8-9th graders, and 10-12th graders. Teams will receive a reversible jersey, tournament t-shirt, a “swag bag,” and are guaranteed at least 3 games. Registration for the tournament is now open. Fees are $130/team. The tournament and accompanying T-3 Memorial Fund honor the life and memory of Trey Schweigert. Trey was an avid basketball player throughout his life, participating locally in basketball programs through the YMCA, S.W.I.S.H, AAU, NBC Camps, Immaculate Conception Regional School, Mount Vernon High School, and Skagit County Parks and Rec. Trey’s life was tragically taken after unknowingly ingesting a fake prescription pain pill while recovering from recent orthopedic surgery and a torn tendon.
“We welcome the opportunity to honor our son Trey through his love for basketball while supporting his life philosophy to pay it forward, pass on kindness and inspiration, to love, to share, and to make a positive difference in the world,” shares Carol Schweigert, Trey’s mom. “We hope you’ll join us!”
The T-3 Tournament promotes drug education/awareness and “skills over pills” messaging within its efforts. The fentanyl crisis is devastating families across communities, Washington State, and the greater United States. The tournament hopes to bring awareness about current threats, the dangers of drug dealers on social media, and the importance of only taking medications that have been obtained from your doctor or pharmacy.
On April 22 from 10:00am – 2:00pm, the Mount Vernon: Healthy Outcomes through Prevention Efforts Coalition (MV HOPE Coalition) and the Skagit County Sheriff’s Department will be hosting a drug take back event. Community members are invited to stop by the drive-through event at the YMCA and safely dispose of medications that are no longer needed or pick up medication lockboxes.
Donations to the T-3 Memorial Fund will support basketball programming at the YMCA, including funding scholarships for youth and families facing financial barriers, court/equipment upkeep, and any other essential needs to maintain a robust YMCA basketball program.

The Skagit Valley Family YMCA is a cause-driven organization focused on three key areas: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We believe a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors. Our Y programs, services, and initiatives enable youth to realize their potential; offer families ways to have fun together; and empower people to be healthier in mind, body, and spirit. Our doors are open to all walks of life in our community, and we are continually striving to foster social responsibility and equity in our community.
